What is this event all about, anyway?

Hi! My name is Bex Paz.

I own Spanish Learning Network, which has provided me with a truly beautiful space that doubles as an event center for up to 200 people.

I am proud to be the only non-profit Pride event where only the performers receive financial compensation.

Joy As Resistance receives 100% of the revenue.

This is a passion project for me, and I am committed to never earning commission from this event, nor compensating myself for my time or space.

In the spirit of transparency, I am happy to share the full  financial details of this event with anyone who inquires. Because truth, transparency, and honesty matter.

Why "Sapphic?"

My event is built on the values of community, inclusivity, and supporting a cause that we can all stand alongside. I strive to provide a safe and welcoming space that highlights local artists and performers while focusing on the sapphic experience.

It is rare to encounter an event in our LGBTQ community that is exclusive to women, trans and non-binary folx. I believe that creating and curating these safe spaces is important.

We are always seeking new terms to describe spaces that give us a temporary reprieve from the gaze of cis het men. "Sapphic" is what is working for us right now.

  • We welcome trans women, because they are women.

  • We welcome trans men, because many of them have roots in our community and are still welcome here.

  • We love our gay brothers, and recognize that they also have their own spaces in addition to the spaces we share together.
